Manufacturing unique and customized cold-formed fasteners

By Michelle Froese | May 16, 2022

Brainard Rivet was recenttly awarded hex-head shoulder bolts for manufacturing.

American fastener manufacturer, Brainard Rivet, specializes in unique, made-to-print, cold-formed fasteners. With more than a century of experience in the fasteners industry, the company has mastered the ability to produce complicated products while obtaining economies-of-scale.

Its technology offers a proven ability to help customers solve problems in manufacturing and customer requirements. It does this through the creation of cost-cutting, one-of-a-kind fasteners and special parts.

Brainard Rivet recently announced its newest part — the hex-head shoulder bolt. In fact, several of its operators showcased their talents during the manufacturing process.

“Even with all its features — hexagonal head shape, long shoulder, and threaded shank — we are still able to cold-form these parts with very little scrap,” stated Brainard Rivet in a recent release. “While we had to trim the head, we rolled the thread. Our processes often provide customers significant cost savings due to minimal amounts of wasted material.”

Brainard Rivet manufacture several unique fasteners with threads, knurls, points, grooves, trimmed heads, etc. It also offers various other types of cold-formed custom parts, such as:

  • A straight tenon
  • A semi-tubular tenon
  • A shoulder to use as a pivot
  • Grooved or knurled shanks to facilitate use as an insert in a molding or casting, such as a hinge pin
  • Ornamental heads for cosmetic hardware

Mass-production of precision fasteners and special parts can provide significant savings in custom-made fasteners, compared to screw machined, cast or forged parts, or welded assemblies.
