“Conform” components are parts that are manufactured in conformance with specific requirements using a multi-stage cold-forming process. Arnold Umformtechnik GmbH is going one step further with the introduction of “Conform Next.”
Along with developing tools, these manufacturing systems are optimized and adapted to anticipate specific component requirements. This provides fastener manufacturers significantly more flexibility and increases efficiency — particularly for the production of rare or diverse component geometries.
How it works
The Conform Next component forming process entails a longer cycle time. This makes it possible to link processes, automatically and economically. Typically, manufacturing such components is costly and requires special care because of the high-quality requirements. These components tend to be sensitive to vibration, so attention must be taken to bring them into exact positioning for precise machining.
Conform Next’s slower forming process, testing, and assembly steps mean this positioning step can be integrated directly into the manufacturing process. As a result, the formed components no longer have to be transferred from one machine to another or even to a different plant. This saves logistical costs.
It’s also possible to react faster to any error detections because the Conform Next process starts at the development stage.
An alternative to turned or milled parts
Conform Next products cover several applications and designs. Arnold’s production options include the manufacture of complicated external contours, blind and through-holes, and short, difficult to transport parts or products that require internal hole machining. The versatility of Conform Next manufacturing means the “non-cutting process” sometimes results in significant material savings.
And as Arnold Umformtechnik points out, designers and developers benefit from the fastener manufacturer’s expertise in the development phase and during prototype construction. The company’s engineering tools can be integrated into the development process, providing the necessary parameters for cost-efficient and optimized production and functional prototypes.
From the start, the focus is on readiness for large-scale production. Any necessary adjustments can be incorporated into the product development process at an early stage. This ensures shorter process and lead times for customers, a high degree of flexibility and saves time and development costs.
