New N95 face mask uses hypoallergenic adhesives to stay in place

By Michelle Froese | May 6, 2021

Global materials science company, Avery Dennison, has partnered with manufacturer and developer, Global Safety First to bring a new, adhesive-based, certified mask technology to the healthcare market.

Avery Dennison offers a video on the correct way to adhere the strapless N95 face mask here.

This innovative N95 face mask uses a strapless design that provides a complete, airtight perimeter seal, offering full security and protection. Thanks to medical-grade, skin-friendly adhesives, the mask stays in place without relying on conventional ear loops.

The NIOSH-Certified Strapless N95 face masks also uses a special air-purifying filter media and a hypoallergenic medical adhesive at the perimeter of the mask, which filters more than 95% of particles.

Depending on the activities and needs of the wearer, three types of adhesives are in production — soft silicone gel for a gentle hold, acrylic for firmer hold, and synthetic rubber for the strongest bond.

According to Avery Denniso, the NIOSH-Certified Strapless N95 face masks offer:

  • Security and protection: Forms an air-tight seal while allowing filtration during inhalation and exhalation
  • Innovative design: Self-adhesive material eliminates tight elastic straps and ties that put pressure on the face or get caught in hair
  • Breathability: Made with electrostatic particle filtration properties that make the masks more breathable
  • Gentle comfort: Skin-friendly adhesive that adheres gently to the face

The NIOSH-Certified Strapless N95 face masks may help provide protection where the following are present:

  • Virus
  • Bacteria
  • Debris
  • Aerosols
  • Pollution
  • Smoke particles
  • Hazardous particles
