Understanding nanosilica-filled adhesive systems

By Michelle Froese | September 29, 2021

According to Master Bond, a manufacturer of epoxy adhesives, sealants, coatings, and encapsulation compounds, nanosilica-filled adhesive systems offer excellent physical strength properties, abrasion-resistance, and dimensional stability.

A UV-curable system, these compounds meet NASA low-outgassing specifications. They also offer a dual-cure adhesive that cures upon exposure to both UV light and heat.

They are a two-part epoxy with excellent electrical insulation and a long open time. Nanosilica is made of a high purity amorphous silica powder.

Based on a recent infographic from Master Bond, the nanosilica-filled adhesives provide:

  • Dimensional stability
  • Abrasion resistance
  • Optical clarity
  • Low shrinkage
