Simrit Debuts Bi-Component Polyurethane Rod Seal

By Design World Staff | March 12, 2008

PLYMOUTH, Mich. — Simrit will debut its Bi-Component Polyurethane Rod Seal HDR-2C at the 2008 International Exposition for Power Transmission (IFPE).

With the new HDR-2C rod seal, Simrit has designed a simple, one-piece component that combines outstanding low temperature flexibility — down to minus 50 degrees Celsius (minus 58 degrees Fahrenheit) — with exceptional extrusion resistance at high pressures. Recommended for use in lift and steering cylinder applications, the component consists of static and dynamic sealing edges made of low-temperature polyurethane 92 AU 21100 and an extremely extrusion-resistant backside made from Simrit’s 98 AU 928 polyurethane.

The new seal design allows for the use of cost-effective engineered plastic guides (rather than metallic guides) and allows for easy installation and additional cost savings due to the integration of the back-up ring in the seal. Compatible with standard housings per Simrit’s design philosophy, the new rod seal is an affordable way to improve cylinder performance.

Product engineers interested in additional information can visit the Simrit booth(#S-14005) at IFPE 2008, held at the Las Vegas Convention Center from March 11 – 15. Interested media attendees can register to attend the Simrit press event on Wednesday, March 12 from 3 to 4 p.m. in room N249-251. Please see editor’s note for R.S.V.P. information.

The Simrit Division is based at Freudenberg-NOK’s headquarters in Plymouth, Mich. and is part of the Freudenberg and NOK Group, which has total annual sales of more than $12 billion. Simrit offers an extensive portfolio of sealing solutions for the industrial, aerospace, appliance, diesel engine, marine, off-highway equipment, oil and gas, recreational vehicle and semiconductor markets.
