Jowat Corporation recently announced that its new GROW series of sustainable packaging adhesives have earned the USDA Certified Biobased Product label. The packaging adhesive — developed specifically for the North American market — is the first and only hot-melt adhesive in the U.S. to attain this certification from the USDA BioPreferred Program.
“We applaud Jowat Corporation for earning the USDA Certified Biobased Product label,” said Kate Lewis with the USDA BioPreferred Program. “Products from Jowat Corporation are contributing to an ever-expanding marketplace that adds value to renewable agriculture commodities, creates jobs in rural communities, and decreases our reliance on petroleum.”
Under this program, the adhesive’s Biobased content is verified by a third-party laboratory, with the content percentage displayed on the Biobased Product label.
“Sustainability in packaging material is important to our customers around the world, and Jowat’s Biobased GROW adhesives are an innovative development in reducing the consumption of fossil fuel,” added Brian Sufak, regional sales manager with Jowat Corporation. “We are proud to be the first adhesive manufacturer to earn the USDA Certified Biobased Product label.”
The USDA Certified Biobased Product label displays a product’s biobased content, which is the portion of a product that comes from a renewable source, such as plant, animal, marine, or forestry feedstocks. Using renewable biobased materials displaces the need for non-renewable petroleum-based chemicals.
Biobased products, through petroleum displacement, have played an increasingly important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions that exacerbate global climate change.
The avoidance of fossil raw materials and the increased use of renewable resources are only part of the whole. With Jowat Green Adhesives, the company offers a diverse adhesive portfolio so that it’s possible to make adhesive processes more sustainable and responsible in every respect.
