Fittings Eliminate Medical Tubing Misconnections

By Design World Staff | December 16, 2008

In medical settings, accidental tubing misconnections to the wrong line or device, such as an air hose to an intravenous line, can be extremely dangerous, if not deadly. The SRC panel mount-coupling insert lets healthcare workers make safer tubing connections with equipment and devices. These connectors can be integrated into a range of medical equipment and will eliminate tubing misconnections that can occur with luer fittings.

The panel-mount design assists medical personnel in visually confirming that the tubing is connected to the proper equipment and the unique coupling design ensures that it cannot mate to a luer fitting.

The fittings are constructed of chrome-plated brass to offer durability and an attractive appearance. The intuitive design is simple to use and provides an audible click for added assurance of a secure, leak-free connection. There is no twisting required to connect tubing to medical equipment; users simply push the mating SRC body onto this new product option creating an obvious, secure connection.

Additional features include a dual elastomeric seal that is integral to the coupling body. The seal creates a smooth, gap-free flow path for improved flow characteristics without any areas for fluid to collect, thereby reducing media damage and sanitation concerns. In addition, the SRC‚’s chrome-plated brass material adds strength and durability for repeated, leak-free connections while smoothly integrating visually into medical equipment designs.

Designed for use with 1/8 in. and 3/16 in. ID tubing, the SRC provides a smaller profile than other quick disconnect couplings. The new insert mates with the existing SRC bodies, which are made from Class VI, animal-free materials, and can withstand gamma, e-beam and EtO sterilization.
