Clamp Eliminates Film Breaks

By Design World Staff | May 12, 2011

Film breaks are a major frustration for most stretch wrapper operators; they create downtime and lower productivity. Evidence shows that film breaks 4 to 7 times per roll of film and that 30% of all film breaks occur at the clamp.

The engineers at Lantech developed the Load Seeking Clamp™ 4.0 to reduce film breaks. The clamp holds onto the film to prevent film breaks and releases at the clamp.

Lantech clamp

When a typical load passes into the wrap zone, it could be several inches to a foot away from the clamp, which reduces clamp-to-load contact. Most clamps on the market are “stationary clamps” and do not move out to the edge of the load. This causes the film to sag in the gap between the clamp and the load reducing containment at the bottom of the load.

By contrast, at the beginning of the wrap cycle, the Load Seeking Clamp goes out to the edge of the load, creating clamp-to-load contact regardless of the width of the load. This eliminates sagging issues and maximizes containment at the bottom of the load. The clamp is low maintenance, with no pressure or misalignment adjustments needed.

The clamp is standard on the SL Automatic stretch wrapper. It is also available as a retrofit on S Series automatics.
