Visumatic designs and builds automatic feeding and driving equipment to install screws, nuts, bolt. The company recently delivered on an automated fastening promise to a metal stamping manufacturer.
The end-user for this project asked the Visumatic team to develop a value-added product by producing a completed assembly instead of the loose parts. This application required installing a single, medium-sized metal bolt with an over-sized captivated washer to a discreet torque in a multiple part stack up.
Essentially, this bolt/washer combination was a square, which violates the ideal 1.2 bolt length to washer width ratio. To overcome the challenge, Visumatic engineered a track-feed system capable of repeatably feeding and driving this troublesome project.
Ultimately, the system married a stainless steel bolt feeder, track-feed escapement mechanism, and Visumatic’s standard VPD Power Driver spindle with a modified nosepiece. The VPD provides independent driving and immediate functionality. The bolts were directly fed with hard tooling the entire way to the nosepiece assembly, eliminating transition points that could frustrate a standard blow-feeding approach.
